Frequently Asked Questions
Building Information
How do I select a building style?
Use the Pro Metal Buildings 3D Builder to configure a custom building style, or browse the Pre-Designed Buildings pages to choose a set configuration by type and size.
What is the recommended height for an RV cover for a 5th wheel?
Most fifth-wheel RVs are about 13 ft 6 in at the highest point including the rooftop AC. A 12 ft leg height is commonly recommended for RV covers. With an 18 ft wide vertical roof at 12 ft legs, the center peak is typically around 14 ft 6 in due to the standard 3/12 roof pitch.
What colors and finishes are available for metal structures?
Pro Metal Buildings offers up to 15 panel color options for many structures. You can typically choose separate colors for the roof, trim, and body. Panel undersides are white. Refer to the Color Chart for current availability.
What are my color choices?
Common options include white, multiple shades of gray and beige, black, red, burgundy, brown, blue, and green. In the 3D builder you can mix roof, trim, and body colors to match your preferences. See the Color Chart for the full list.
What are the different styles of Carports offered?
What type of metal is best for preventing rust and corrosion?
We offer both 12 and 14 gauge frame’s. Frames are made from galvanized steel to help resist rust and corrosion. In coastal or salt-air environments, a heavier 12-gauge frame is commonly recommended, and it may include a limited rust warranty depending on product and region.
Can I add walls, storage, or insulation to a metal carport?
Yes. Many options such as side walls, end walls, storage, and insulation can be added during design using the 3D design tool so the building is manufactured to your specifications.
What is the gauge on the buildings?
Pro Metal Buildings offers 12-gauge and 14-gauge galvanized steel framing options. The 12-gauge option may include a limited rust warranty, depending on the product and service area.
Can I upgrade the gauge of the panels / sheet metal?
Standard panels are 29-gauge steel for the roof, sides, and ends. We do have the option of upgrading to a 26 Gauge panel in some states. Please give us a call to see availability in your area and the cost.
How tall is the actual peak of the roof?
Peak height depends on the building width and roof style. Our buildings are manufactured at a standard 3/12 roof pitch with one exception of the Standard/Regular style which will have a 3/12 pitch plus 1 additional foot. This is based on the style of truss and the rounded corner gives it an additional foot.
If you would like your carport or garage built with a different pitch, give us a call and we can get that cost for you. Custom pitches may be available by request.
Most 5th Wheels are 13’6″ at the highest point with the AC. We suggest going with a 12′ leg height for most Metal RV Covers. For an 18′ wide Vertical Style Roof and a 12′ leg height, you will be approximately 14’6″ at the center peak. Our buildings are a 3/12 pitch.
Order Information
How do I place an order?
There are two options on placing your order: Orders can be placed online or by phone.
Customers can use the online estimator or 3D builder to configure a building and complete checkout with a down payment. Orders can also be placed by calling the office, where a down payment can be made by credit card or check. Orders are processed once payment is received.
After I place my order what can I expect from there?
A down payment of approximately 10 to 18 percent is required at the time of order. After the order is submitted, the scheduling team will contact you as installation approaches to review the contract and next steps. Typical delivery and installation timeframes range from 2 to 12 weeks, depending on location, season, and weather. If engineered drawings are required for permitting, those fees are due up front and drawings are typically delivered within 2 to 4 weeks.
What can I expect for an arrival date?
Installation dates are estimated and depend on production schedules, crew availability, load planning, and weather conditions. Customers can email us at [email protected] or call our office at 888-536-1585 for the most current scheduling update, but exact dates cannot be guaranteed until installation is confirmed.
What if I want to make changes to my order?
Order changes may be requested by phone or email. Availability of changes depends on how close the order is to manufacturing or installation. If changes cannot be made, additional components or upgrades may be added later for an additional delivery or installation fee.
What happens after my order is placed?
Once submitted, the order is reviewed and confirmed by the manufacturing plant. Customers are typically contacted about one week prior to installation to schedule the exact day and time. If the estimated delivery window is 4 to 6 weeks, initial scheduling contact usually occurs 3 to 5 weeks after the order is placed.

Install Information
What requirements do I need to meet for installation?
We offer Free Delivery and Installation on almost all our carports and garages. Installation sites must meet several requirements.
The site should be level, with no more than a 3-inch slope in one direction. Please view our installation video to determine if your site is level.
At least 2 feet of clearance is required on all sides for crew access. Installation crews must be able to park within 40 feet of the site.
The area must be clear of obstacles unless prior arrangements are made. Buildings cannot be installed within 10 feet of power lines.
If you would like it to be built over an RV or other obstacle, please let us know what we will be building over, and the dimensions. We will be able to give you the cost for the additional labor for building over.
Customers are encouraged to be on-site during installation in case placement questions arise.
Where do I find a Carport or Metal Building Installer?
Delivery and installation are included with most Pro Metal Buildings purchases. Installation is performed by professional crews associated with the manufacturing plants that serve each region. Customers do not need to hire a separate installer.
Can I have a Carport or Metal Garage near my house?
Carports and metal garages can often be installed near a home, but placement is subject to local easements and setback requirements. A minimum of 3 feet of clearance around the structure is recommended for installation access. Limited space may require advance notice and could result in additional labor
Do I need a Permit for my Carport or Metal Shop?
Permit requirements vary by city and county. Customers should check with their local planning department regarding permits, setbacks, and easements. Engineered drawings can be provided when required, based on local wind and snow load specifications.
We would have a few additional questions, such as wind and snow ratings for your area. We have this link to get you started: ascehazardtool.org

Can I put my building on a gravel or dirt surface?
Buildings up to 30 feet wide clear span can typically be installed on gravel, dirt, or asphalt surfaces. Structures wider than 30 feet generally require a concrete foundation. Multi-section buildings may still be installed on gravel or dirt if each section remains within width limits.
