RVs come in several main classes, and knowing yours is the first step to selecting the right metal carport.
Before buying a metal RV carport, measure:
Overall Length – Include bumpers, hitches, ladders, or spare tires. Add at least 2–4 feet for comfortable parking.
Overall Width – Account for side mirrors and slide-outs if stored extended.
Overall Height – Measure to the tallest point, including roof-mounted A/C units, vents, or satellite dishes. Remember that U.S. highway maximum RV height is 13’6″, but your carport must clear this comfortably.

How do I choose the right size for my RV carport?
Measure the width, length, and height of your RV—including any slide-outs. A 12-foot-wide carport suits units without slide-outs, while 18-foot width accommodates slide-out models. Length and height should exceed your RV’s dimensions to guarantee clearance.
Do I need a foundation or base plates?
Lightweight kits may use metal base plates anchored to concrete footings—often without requiring permits. For permanent structures, setting posts directly in concrete is common. Pro Metal Buildings can advise you based on your site.

Is a building permit required?
Permit requirements vary by jurisdiction, and the customer is responsible for contacting their planning department to determine if one will be necessary for the building they are purchasing and for the installation location. If your structure is permanent and set on concrete, a permit and engineered plans are often required. We can supply the Engineered Drawings and Calculation Drawings for an additional cost.

How long does delivery and installation take?
Typically, kits ship within 2–4 weeks after ordering. Standard kits include pre-cut steel framing and panels, plus easy-to-follow instructions for assembly.

What tools are required to install an RV carport kit?
Most installations require basic tools: power drill (or tek gun), rivet gun, saw/snips, tape measure, level, shovel, ladder, silicone gun, and safety gear. Our pre-cut components make the process simple and streamlined.
